Smart Voter Full Biography for William "Chip" Mackrides

Candidate for
Judge; Court of Common Pleas; District 32

Chip Mackrides was born in Delaware County on September 28, 1953 and raised in Springfield Township, the son of teachers. His father, Bill Mackrides, a graduate of West Phila. High, was a quarterback for the Phila. Eagles and thereafter taught Math and English before earning his PhD and Chairing the Guidance Department at Springfield High School. His mother, Louise (Martinelli) Mackrides, a graduate of Girls High, taught English and Art before earning her Masters in Child Psychology. At a very young age education and hard work were stressed in Chip's family. Chip's father included the building and manufacturing Trades when he stressed education, often speaking of the importance of the Trades to our lives. Chip earned his B.S. Degree in Accounting from Villanova University in 1975 and his Juris Doctor of Law from Loyola Univ. School of Law in 1979.

On August 28, 1982 Chip married Nancy Reagan who was a medical technologist and later became an office manager, small business owner and 14 year member of the Rose Tree Media School Board. Chip and Nancy just celebrated their 31st Anniversary, live in Edgmont Township and have two children, Daniel (29) an Electrical Engineer and Nicholas (27), a Medical Doctor doing his Residency in Pathology.

Chip Mackrides practices Law (34 years) in Delaware County and is admitted to Practice before the following Courts: Supreme Court of the United States; Supreme Court of Pennsylvania; U.S. District Court Eastern District of PA; U.S. District Court District of Colorado.

He currently serves as Vice President of the Delaware County Bar Association, and Solicitor to John J. Whelan District Attorney of Delaware County. Additionally, he serves as a Supervisor of Edgmont Township, where he has served for more than 14 years. He also serves as Solicitor and Board member of the Hero Scholarship Fund, which provides College scholarships for the children of Police Officers, Firefighters and EMS Workers who have given their lives in the line of duty. Other current community involvements are: Vice Chair of the County Services for the Aging Advisory Board, Solicitor to Edgmont Business & Professional Association, Member Delco. Workforce Investment Board, Member House of Delegates PA Bar Association Zone 9, and Solicitor to Delaware Co. Filitalia & Board Member Filitalia International. Chip currently is a Member of the Delaware Co. Sheriff's Reserve Unit, the Delco. Justinians where he served as Chancellor (2009 & 2010), Penn State Brandywine Capital Campaign Committee, Delaware Co. Township Officials Assn. where he served as President (2006-2007), PA Bar Assn. Real Property Probate & Trust Law Section where he served as Chair (2011), County Conference of Bar Leaders, Guy G. DiFuria Inn of Court where he has served as Group Leader, the Delaware Co. Chamber of Commerce, the Clover Club, the West End Boat Club and the PA Bar Association Review & Certifying Board (Appointed by the PBA President). Chip has also served as Editor of the Delaware County Legal Journal, President of the Rose Tree Media Education Foundation, Heart and Lung Act hearing officer for Delaware County, Special Solicitor for Register of Wills (indigent deceased); Delaware County Solicitor handling matters of Tax Assessment, Cell Towers & Intercommunity Health. He is Past Chairman of the Edgmont Planning Commission, Goodwill Industries Advisory Board, and Trust Counselors Network.

Chip Mackrides is AV Rated through Martindale-Hubbell which is the highest rating for practice skills and integrity and is 10 Rated in AVVO.com, their highest and most exclusive rating for Attorneys. In 2002 he received the President's Award from the Delaware County Bar Association and in 2008 he was presented their Lawyers Club "Man of the Year" Award. He was designated Top Lawyer in 2002 as one of only eight Attorneys that were chosen by their peers from a survey of Attorneys in the Suburban Philadelphia area and a Top Lawyer in 2004, 2009-2013: in Main Line Today Magazine's "Top Lawyers" issue. Chip was chosen a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in 2004 by Philadelphia Magazine, an honor which he again received each year 2005 through 2013; and an Awesome Attorney by Suburban Life Magazine's reader poll in 2010-2013. In addition he has received awards for Pro Bono Representation, Distinguished Service & Leadership, as well as Outstanding Leadership & Support. Chip has more than 30 Published Works and Lectures. He has belonged to the following parishes: Holy Cross, St. Kevin's, St. Anastasia and now, Saints Simon and Jude. In addition to his numerous community involvements, Chip also enjoyed coaching some of his children's sports. Chip Mackrides' resume and associations demonstrate that he has the background, experience, knowledge and temperament to be a fair and effective Common Pleas Court Judge. It further highlights that he has been active in our community for more than Thirty (30) years, striving to make it a better place to live and raise our families.

As a Judge, he will continue to give his time and best efforts for the benefit of our community. He will make a diligent and sincere effort to ensure that all sides have an ideal forum to present their cases and to achieve justice. His Courtroom will be a place where all those who appear before the Court are treated with dignity, respect, fairness and impartiality.
