Encinitas voters will have the opportunity in November to decide whether the Mayor of Encinitas will be directly elected by Encinitas voters and for what term (either two or four years), or whether the Council will continue to select one of its five members to serve as Mayor for a one-year term. The office of Mayor is of at least equal importance to the office of Councilmember and should be an elected position. Encinitas voters should have an equal right to vote for their Mayor and their Council members, and for an equal term: four years. |
