Ballot StatementBy Shelly MasurCandidate for Board Member; Redwood City School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
This is the statement provided to voters in the sample ballotFor six years I've worked hard for children in Redwood City School District and I ask for your vote for four more. Despite the worst education funding since the Great Depression, we've balanced our budget, raised student achievement, and improved communication. Balancing the budget has been hard. It's required thorough understanding of our district finances and state funding system and it's negatively affected all our children and families. Experience has made it possible for me to make those difficult decisions and to leverage our partnerships to lessen the blow. We've improved student achievement. Six years ago, only a few schools were doing well. Through collaboration and hard work, we have three California Distinguished Schools, three that exited program improvement and six that meet or exceed state targets. Improving communication was my goal and we've done it. Through many channels, our community can access what they need to know. We've also reached out successfully. I spearheaded a community outreach campaign to over 800 community members. We're doing well but there's more work to be done and I'm ready to do it. Thank you for the trust you've put in me over the past six years and for your support for four more. |
