Six years ago, when the voters placed their trust in me, I made three promises:
I will work hard for our children
- My colleagues and I have led the district through the most difficult budget times since the Great Depression while still overseeing an increase in academic achievement
- I have lead efforts to improve health and wellness by founding the school wellness committee, working with the committee to write our first wellness policy and shepherd ongoing efforts to improve access to wellness activities, culminating with the inclusion of physical activity in our district's state plan
- I co-chaired a parcel tax campaign, which would have raised over $2 million per year for our children
- I led the revision of our homework policy to make it more flexible and responsive to the needs of individual students
I will be available to you
- Together with my colleagues, I led a year-long community outreach campaign reaching all schools and totaling over 800 community members
- I regularly visit school sites and attend special events. I take those opportunities to talk with students, staff and parents.
- I answer e-mails and phone calls and meet with parents and community members to address concerns.
I will continue to look for ways to leverage the resources we have by fostering collaboration.
- I am a board representative to Redwood City 2020 + a collaborative effort of RCSD, the City of Redwood City, the County of San Mateo and the Sequoia Union High School District which supports our full-service community schools.
- As president of the San Mateo County School Boards Association, I initiated a partnership with the County Office of Education to commission a study on shared services
