Candidate Focuses on Kensington Issues

What Tony Lloyd feels his priorities should be for the KPPCSD if elected to the board.

We have been PTA Parents, Scouting Parents, Gymnastics Parents, Pre-school parents. I have been an officer in the Dad's club, a Trustee and Financial Trustee Board member at Arlington Community Church (28 year membership), I am the current Moderator (lay leader of the church), and also I am a member of the KCC board, Past President of the Kensington Business Professional Association. Additionally I am an 18 year member of Kensington's Blues Daddies Band.

As we make good financial decisions the next important focus is where we spend the money! There are a lot of issues that need to be attended to in city government. Not all of the issues can be managed simultaneously or with the same priority. Following are some of the priorities I would like to see our focus on if I am elected to the board.

- Maintaining a qualified, well trained, well equipped public safety department. Our community peace of mind is directly tethered to the performance of our public safety corps.

- Support for our parks and recreation lands and programs. It is important for the balance in our community to have a place to play and learn where, we live.

- Better traffic pattern management. Times are changing. Many new young people now attend our various school programs. More people now leave and return to the community for work daily. Our community retail business is being frequented more often.

- Solid waste and refuse management has always been in need of continuous management and the requirement continues. The good news is this is a financial burden, a revenue contributor, and a chance for the community to contribute positively to our environment. In this one we need to keep our eye on the prize.

- Some may question why emergency preparedness is a priority of mine. I spent 35 years in telecommunications and have seen the changes and the reason many of those changes have come about. We have a small city with a small public safety department. Our entire city sits on an active fault line. Our streets are lined with mature trees, many of our houses are combustible, and we live next to thousands of acres fire fuel. I am an experienced disaster recovery regulatory trained civilian. I know firsthand what earthquakes, fires, and floods can do to small communities. This subject must be a high priority for our city because the one time we will need it...it will have to work and work well.
