Kensington Parks and Recreation A Win / Win solution requiredBy Richard W "Tony" LloydCandidate for Director; Kensington Police Protection and Community Services District | |

The funding decision on the KKPCSD issue needs to be a win /win resolution. The Kensington Community has a crown jewel work in progress that needs collaboration not contention. If the community of Kensington is one of the best kept secrets in the urban east bay then Kensington Park is the center piece. This approximate 10 acre parcel of land off the Arlington in the northwestern part of the community has been a work in progress since 1955. Crafted by interested citizens and residents and managed by the Service District and Community Council in various configurations and responsibilities, the Kensington Park now stands as a proud landmark in our community. In its history it has provided grounds for family gatherings, tennis matches and lessons, scouting meetings, pre-school offerings, town hall meetings, hometown day celebrations, tot lot experiences. It has served as a location of worship, civic meetings, K group headquarters, educational instructions, more than a few memorable weddings, and as the meeting place for the service district. The park, its buildings, its beautiful view of San Francisco Bay, and all its offerings (current and planned) is being evaluated to determine how to make it cost effective and manageable within the means provided. The KPPCSD has responsibility for the community's parks and recreation assets. My goal if elected to the board will be to find a way to put a win / win solution set on the table. One that will continue to protect the legacy of Kensington park for all that it is and can be for Kensington. To do this we will need to listen to the voice of the people carefully. Then as partners with the community, find solutions that will satisfy the desires of people and address the fiduciary responsibilities of district. If park budget is the problem then we must find more park budget. If how park budget is being spent is the issue then we must audit and modify our practices. If both of these problems exist then we have a path for resolution. In conclusion, I think this is an issue in which the people are entitled to strongly influence the final vote! |
