Art Kapoor was raised in Berkeley, CA before moving to Orinda in 1972. He attended Pine Grove Intermediate and Miramonte High School. He went on to study electrical engineering at UC Berkeley graduating with a BS EECS in 1981. He spent two years as a Product Engineer with a semiconductor manufacturer in Santa Clara before returning to school at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and graduating in 1985 with an MBA. He returned to his earlier employer in the Silicon Valley and joined their Marketing Group. He developed new products and gave design seminars throughout the world. Art left Analog Devices in 1991 to join the family firm which owns and manages apartment buildings throughout the Bay Area. Art and his wife, Judy, moved to Lafayette in 1991. They have three sons all who attended Lafayette schools. Their oldest son, Allan, is a junior at UCSB, Brendan is a junior at Acalanes and their youngest, Ryan, is a 6th grader at Stanley. Art has been a longtime classroom volunteer, especially when the activities involved math or science. His direct involvement with the Lafayette School District began in 2005 when he participated as a parent member of the district's inaugural Strategic Planning Committee. Art found that experience both fascinating and gratifying. He was very impressed by the caliber, commitment and resolve of all of the members of the Strategic Planning Committee - staff, teachers, administrators, parents and community members. The district's initial Strategic Plan has been guiding the direction of the district since its adoption by the Board in April 2006. In addition to helping to develop the District's Strategic Plan Art was on the campaign committees of Measure A and Measure J - developing and maintaining the voter databases for each campaign and making innumerable phone calls to voters. Art served as the chairman of the Acalanes Union High School District's Measure B Citizens' Oversight Committee for 2007 and 2008. This committee's task was to insure that the funds generated by Measure B were spent as required by the bond measure and in an efficient manner. As noted in the reports to the public by the committee the AUHSD did an excellent job of meeting the construction goals of Measure B and spent the funds both wisely and carefully. Independent audits repeatedly praised the district. Art has been a long time phonathon caller for LASF. He joined the Lafayette School District Governing Board in 2008. |
