Dan O'Malley was born and raised in Contra Costa County. One of nine children, he attended local schools from grammar school to college. In 1987, Dan was sworn in as a Deputy District Attorney in Contra Costa County. As a deputy, his assignments included virtually every type of criminal and civil case. He was a trial lawyer, supervisor, filing deputy expeditor and civil attorney. He served two tours on Homicide team. He worked exclusively in the criminal and juvenile divisions until 1998 when he was assigned to the "Special Operations" division with an emphasis on "Consumer Fraud", "Unfair Business Practices" and Forfeiture. He also prosecuted White Collar Crime. In 2000, Dan was elected Judge of the Superior Court, Contra Costa County. He presided over criminal and civil cases at the Pittsburg and Martinez Courts. He was appointed Supervising Judge of the Pittsburg Branch and served on the Executive Committee. He then presided over the "felony criminal calendar" in Martinez. Finally, Dan was assigned to the county wide "limited jurisdiction" civil calendar. He was honored by the "Recovery Happens" Committee for his work instituting the Proposition 36 program in Contra Costa County. From 1988 through 2000, Dan was an Instructor at Contra Costa Community Colleges. He taught evening classes at Los Medanos, Diablo Valley and Contra Costa Colleges. He also taught at the Los Medanos Criminal Justice Training Center (Police Academy). His duties included the basic and advanced academies as well as a statewide District Attorney and Police Officers advanced Officers Symposiums. Currently, Dan is a partner in the Law Office of O'Connor, Runckel and O'Malley. He represents clients in both civil and criminal cases. Dan is married to Judge MaryAnn O'Malley and has two sons. Dan spends his spare time coaching youth baseball and basketball. He continues his community outreach by counseling high school students on the perils of juvenile and adult crime. Dan's endorsements include the Contra Costa Deputy District Attorney Association, Sheriffs Warren Rupf and Richard Rainey (Ret), District Attorneys Robert Kochly, Gary Yancey (Ret) and Bill O'Malley (Ret) and many in the law enforcement community. |
