The EconomyqBy Joshua C. QuinterCandidate for US Representative; District 13; Republican Party | |

The Key is a Growing Economy Driven by the Private SectorThe key to our economic recovery is a growing economy and the creation of jobs. The American economy is driven by small business and American entrepreneurship, not big government policy and central planning in Washington. We should trust our founding principals and over 200 years of accumulated wisdom to solve our problems. Any plan for economic recovery must:
(1) Stop the massive federal spending. Simply stated, the dollars in our pockets today will be worth less tomorrow because of the federal government's current spending habits. Moreover, it is bad policy to allow nations like China to hold so much of our debt and unfair to our children and grandchildren to mortgage their future.
(2) Stop and reduce government interference in the private sector. We must make the future more predictable for business owners and permit more flexibility to businesses to adapt and compete in the environments in which they operate. This includes opposing legislation like Card Check, Cap & Trade, and the recently proposed health care legislation.
(3) We must keep taxes low and, where possible, reduce them further. By allowing people to keep more of their own money, people will re-invest in themselves and their businesses and cause the economy to grow.
(4) Offer tax credits to employers who hire able and willing employees. This will allow them to get the help they need with a softer blow on their bottom line.
(5) Make the United States more business friendly by lowering the corporate tax rate, stopping the brain drain that deprives companies of needed employees, and promoting the use of technology.
Our economy will recover if the government will stop working against us and start working with us. Because these common sense solutions are proven, I would begin pursuing them right away. |
