As Director of the AFL-CIO Community Service Department at the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, Steven Neal has worked to develop critical programs to serve more than a half million working men and women. Steven is responsible for implementing strategic plans, building coalitions between labor, community and religious organizations. Steven has fiscal oversight over program grants, and develops statistical analysis. He also directs political organizing, mobilization and lobbying campaigns on working family issues. Currently, Steven serves as Executive Director of Labor Community Services Food and Emergency Program. This non-profit services more than a half million individuals annually providing emergency food and direct assistance in the area of utility payments and partial rent assistance. A proud member of the NAACP, Steven also belongs to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, A. Philip Randolph Institute, and Emergency Food and Shelter Program. A devoted community member, Steven served on the Los Angeles Police Commission on Ethical Charities, African American Summit on Violence Prevention, The Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Board, and the Los Angeles Community Financial Resource Center Corporate Board. Steven Neal, candidate for Long Beach City Council District # 9, Neal, a lifelong activist and community leader has long been considered a natural successor to the incumbent council member. Steven serves as a board member of the Los Angeles Emergency Food and Shelter Program. He is a recipient of the 2007 Californians for Justice Racial Justice Hero Award, 2003 Pediatric Aids Community Activist award, 1999 Harbor Area United Way Champion Diversity Award and the 1995 Communications Workers of America Community Service Award. Steven has served on the Los Angeles Police Commission on Ethical Charities and the African American Summit on Violence Prevention. In addition, he is a Long Beach City Commissioner, board member for the Long Beach Coalition for Good Jobs and Healthy Communities, Fairfield Branch YMCA, Long Beach for Equitable College Career Options, Long Beach Freedom School, Pacific Gateway (Long Beach) Workforce Investment Board and a member of the Los Angeles Community Financial Resource Center Corporate Leadership Board. Steven also serves as the Assistant Pastor of S.E.A.M. Faith Family Church in Chino. Steven and his wife Katonja live in the 9th District of Long Beach and are the proud parents of six children and seven grandchildren. |
