Steve's Priorities for the 9th District My priorities for the 9th District of Long Beach are the same priorities and objectives I have for all of Long Beach, a greater role in the regional economy. Locally, I want to see a vibrant, strong North Long Beach. Jobs are a beginning, but they are not enough. The residents of the 9th District deserve a better quality of life that matches neighboring districts. To that end: I pledge strong support for local businesses To work diligently to reduce the budget deficit And to be a voice for the underserved We know that there is a need for employment opportunities in Long Beach as well as the County of Los Angeles. But we also need to develop strategies regionally to alleviate the challenges in the local economy. Long Beach has a responsibility to the region and the state. We are affected by what happens in our direct region of Los Angeles County, Sacramento, and in Washington. As the second largest city in the county, we have to contribute to regional solutions. The economic opportunity this city brings to the regional economy is something we can't afford to mismanage. I will push for strict ethics standards to avoid the problems other municipalities have had with self-interest council members and other city officials. Long Beach can be proud of its educational system. We have one of the better school systems in the state. That does not mean there are not areas that need improvement. I want to work with educators, parents, and community activist to ensure we produce the best and brightest from our schools. To accomplish all of this, I will work with broad constituents to help create a Long Beach we all can be proud of. Steve's Major Initiatives for the 9th District:
