The hospital is currently constructing a major addition. The Board of Directors should be intimately involved in how the taxpayer dollars are spent.The hospital needs an expanded emergency department and critical care unit. The bond measure approved by the voters will not cover all the expenses, especially as construction costs continue to increase. The community has been extremely supportive of fund raising to help offset these costs. The board needs to be more visible to the community so the donors can track where and how their money is being spent. The board of directors should make sure all the cost overruns are a prudent use of the community's taxes. Each application for additional dollars for cost overruns should be well researched to make sure the construction costs reflect the current charges. The board has not in the past questioned the construction costs, but instead approved each and every application for additional money over and above the allotted amount for the particular construction cost. |
