It is time for the hospital to manage itself instead of using a health care management company hundreds of miles away.For almost 20 years, the board has hired Brim Health Care to manage the hospital. It is time to use the $250,000 paid to Brim each year and use it to manage the hospital as the original board intended. The board of directors of the hospital, can and should hire administrators that will help get the hospital out of the red and balance the expenses with the assets. As one of the few remaining non-profit hospitals in the nation, it behooves the board to really direct and lead the way. Brim Health Care could be eliminated without undue distress to the services of the hospital and save a quarter of a million dollars each year. The board could step up to the task of making sure the employees selected for top management positions are well qualified for taking the hospital out of the red and balancing the books. The hospital is not a profit-making business, but it does need to make sure the staff do not have to cut services and pay checks will be honored. |
