there are options available to increase our now limited protection, that will result in no increased cost to homeowners
The Contra Costa County Sheriffs Department has in the past, used trained reserve officers in conjunction with paid deputies, to help increase patrol coverage in needed areas. I believe the CSD Board should form a committee to meet with the Sheriff and explore the possibility of bringing at least two reserve officers to work with our regular paid deputies. Bringing in reserve officers will give residents a much larger police presence here in Discovery Bay. I feel, that this will not only reduce crime, but in the event of an arrest, the prisoner could be transported by the reserve officer, instead of removing the paid deputy from patrol for the remainder of his shift. If we can put this program together with the Sheriff, it is definately a win win proposition for the homeowners, without a dreaded tax increase. As far as fire protection, there is no reason that we cannot go back to a partial volunteer fire department. When I moved to Discovery Bay, we relied on a volunteer department as our only means of protection. I would be willing to bet, that there are still qualified fire fighters living in Discovery Bay, who would be willing to serve on a part time volunteer basis.
