Most individuals have a distrust of the political system and government. There is an inherent fear that their voice is not heard and that the system caters to special interests. With this perception issues such as development, re-zoning, public works, and projects like the Heart of the City are seen as suspect. The city and its elected representatives must strive to change this impression by making the position of Councilmember more accessible to the community. Posting phone numbers, emails addresses, and community meetings are a good start. As the district representative I will conduct affirmative outreach through community District 5 "town hall" meetings, "walk abouts", newsletters, phone calls, and the city's website. I will be a responsive city council representative who acts as a resource for residents and business. When there is a problem or issue, together we will work to resolve them.
