BELIEF STATEMENT: I believe good schools strengthen communities. Each child has the potential to grow and learn and to become a contributing member of our society. Public education provides the opportunity for ALL our children to flourish. Children haven't changed a lot since we were young, but our society has and it is important to provide a learning environment that addresses the diverse needs of today's students so they, too, can develop the skills to be productive members of our society. I support a well-rounded educational experience for students, increased parental involvement, on-going staff training and support, and well-maintained facilities. I believe in fiscal and academic accountability to ensure the resources, both fiscal as well as personnel, are used wisely. WHY I AM RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION: I believe public education is one of the cornerstones of our democracy. As an educator, parent, and community member I believe that consistency in strong leadership provides stability for our schools. My three children received an outstanding education in the Cajon Valley School District and I want to ensure that other children receive that same opportunity. As a parent in the Cajon Valley School District, I realized it has a unique, child and family-centered approach to education that makes it a special place for children. The District's leadership is focused on high academic standards, while recognizing the diverse needs of each student. It is important that the school board support that quality leadership while being responsible to the local community. I have served on the Cajon Valley School Board since 1990 and have been Board President 5 times during the past 16 years. I completed the California School Board's Masters in Governance program to better understand the complexities of running a school district. I also attend the California School Board Association's annual conference to stay current on the latest issues. I have experience in asking the tough questions during difficult times. I believe in a child-centered approach in addressing issues whether it's the textbooks being chosen or expanding after-school programs. Everything is based on answering the question, "Is it good for children?" |
