PLANNED GROWTHBy Johnny William "john" SchwabCandidate for Council Member; City of Perris | |

MORE JOBS BEFORE MORE HOUSES! I have witnessed the great growth in population, and yet have failed to see the necessary growth in permanent employment and commercial retail centers happening on both ends of the valley. It appears that distribution centers and more houses are what's in store for Perris. I FIND THIS UNACCEPTABLE! MANUFACTURING/COMMERCIAL--NOT BIG BOXES! Distribution centers, though big buildings, generally employ far fewer employees per square foot than manufacturing and like uses . And at a cost of heavy truck traffic and unacceptable pollution levels, I consider them a poor choice for our future. Perris needs jobs more than additional houses and distribution centers. Distribution centers, if necessary, should be contained within close proximity to March/DHL, and utilize Oleander/Van Buren off ramps solely. POLLUTION & BIG RIGS WILL RUIN OUR CITY & STREETS! STOP, LOOK, LISTEN, THINK........THEN DECIDE It is not too late, I hope, to protect our valley from overcrowding and traffic gridlock, for the sake of our children and generations to come. I propose a moratorium on permits for new distribution centers and residential tracts until a review can be made of the general plan, zoning, public input sought for desired direction of future growth, and possible zoning restrictions to provide jobs in proportion to population growth. Should that review prove me wrong, or a majority of constituents opt for continuing this manner of growth, I WOULD WHOLEHEARTEDLY REPRESENT THE WILL OF THE CITIZENS OF PERRIS. ANNEXATION NOW BEFORE INCONSISTENT DEVELOPMENT TAKES PLACE We need to move forward quickly, if possible, to annex our Sphere of Influence areas to protect Perris from development in these areas inconsistent with our desired growth. We need to insure that we have sufficient staff in our planning/building departments to professionally handle future growth accordingly; and a planning commission operating in accord with council's vision I BELIEVE IN GROWTH.....PLANNED GROWTH NOW IS THE TIME! WE DON'T HAVE TO ALLOW EXPLOSIVE GROWTH TO DICTATE THE FUTURE WE WANT FOR OUR FAMILIES, OUR CHILDREN, AND OUR CITY! LOCAL CITIZENS SHOULD BE MAKING THOSE DECISIONS, AND NOT OUT OF AREA DEVELOPERS! WE NEED TO PUT INTO PLACE OUR PLAN FOR OUR CITY, WITH OUR GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPMENT, AND THEN ALLOW DEVELOPERS TO FOLLOW THOSE PLANS AND HELP US ACHIEVE OUR GOALS! DEVELOPERS ARE NOT EVIL; THEY WILL WORK WITH OUR PLAN COME, LET US REASON TOGETHER! |
