My Dear Neighbor,

Hemet is one of the promising cities in California. I moved to Hemet nine years ago with the appreciation for its values that were influenced by the World War II generation. Open spaces, lesser road congestion and a greater quality of life were reasons to move and to stay in Hemet. Hemet is now at a cross roads and is rapidly changing . Today we have over 75,000 residents compared to 58,000 in the year 2000. With the current pace of growth, before 2010, Hemet will have over 100,000 residents and 10,000 new homes.

As a result of Hemet's rapid change, traffic has become unbearable, schools are overwhelmed and waiting times in the emergency ward became longer. Not to mention, that there is now speeding in inner neighborhoods, increasing vandalism and flooding concerns during the wet season. If you also notice, there are more houses than well paying job opportunities, prompting many new residents to drive an average of 4 hours a day to get to and from their jobs. If we proceed with this pace of growth, our quality of life will continue to decline, we will lose our open space quickly and our community values will be threatened.

Hemet deserves more than just new homes. As a Planning Commissioner for the City of Hemet, I realized that growth comes with the right vision, and that vision ultimately defines the quality of life of its citizens. I am running for City Council to bring that vision now. My vision includes but is not limited to:

· A responsible, managed growth that includes an annual limit in housing development and keeping our open spaces · Adopting a quality of life standards that will measure capacities for traffic, air quality, police, hospital, storm drainage, schools. In short before we build further let's make sure that we have the capacity and services to accommodate new development.

· Increasing diverse commercial and industrial development to provide meaningful employment, recreational opportunities and tax revenue to the city. · Providing alternatives to public transportation especially for seniors · Increasing police presence in inner neighborhoods, to fight speeding, vandalism and various code violations · Practicing open government by creating opportunities for citizen participation · Creating recreational opportunities for seniors within their communities

I have such a love for the city of Hemet that I want to preserve the quality of life for existing and future residents. One way to do it is to have voice and vote in city government.

This November, I submit for your consideration. By your vote, I will make sure that we can continue to grow into the future without compromising the quality of our lives and our values.

Register, Vote and Make a difference this time! Elect Wiggs Mendoza for City Council!
