Everyone who works deserves a retirement.
Social security should be reformed to become a true retirement system for all Americans who work. Not only have the Republicans threatened Social Security, a safety net for all seniors, their policies have driven many companies into the ground through unfair competition. For example, many foreign auto companies do not have to pay for retirements for their workers. These countries have a national retirement plan that is not figured into the cost of vehicles manufacturered in foreign countries. It is time for us to rethink how we finance retirement in this country. Companies that have gone into banruptcy are now putting their workers into the federal pension program. Let us be realists and work out a national pension system because that's the direction we are heading anyhow.
