John Hecht, President of West Coast Environmental and Engineering, a Ventura business since 1987, is an active member of the Ventura community with experience in business and civic engagement. His civic and professional activities include:

  • City of Ventura Planning Commission, over 6 years
  • Former Chairman of the City Planning Commission
  • Superintendent Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
  • Loma Vista School Site Council (SSC)
  • Loma Vista PTA
  • Ventura Chamber of Commerce
  • Benefactor, Community Memorial Hospital
  • City of Ventura General Plan Executive Committee
  • Air and Waste Management Association
  • Ventura Education Partnership Board

A Ventura resident for over 20 years, John grew up in Tucson, Arizona. His parents were both educators; his father was a professor of Geography at the University of Arizona, and his mother was District Librarian for Tucson Unified School District. He and his wife Angie have two children enrolled in VUSD.

He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana and a Graduate Degree in Geophysics from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. John is a California Professional Mechanical Engineer and a Registered Environmental Assessor.

In his professional life, John is President of West Coast Environmental a local environmental and engineering consulting firm with 35 employees. He is a recognized expert in the reclamation of mined and industrial land and is one of three judges for the for the Federal Bureau of Land Management's Reclamation and Sustainable Mineral Development Awards, a national awards program.

John believes that in these times of increased expectations and diminishing resources, the broader community must come together to support education. John will use his experience and expertise to bring the city, business community, parents, teachers and VUSD staff together to make a positive difference for all children
