Traffic congestion and long term sustainability

I want to pursue some of the transportation grants that are now available and work to implement a pedestrian and bicycle master plan that rivals what Europe has in many of their cities. I would propose downtown San Anselmo experiment with a "no car" downtown area on a few weekends. This would allow our local merchants more access to the community as well as provide an extremely safe environment for people to spend time in the downtown area. A local shuttle system can also add to this to provide greater access for our children and the elderly. Now the time is perfect to develop San Anselmo into a more local based economy.

Another unspoken subject that needs to be strongly addressed is how San Anselmo copes with being a commuter portal for Sonoma County, with it's explosive growth infringing upon Ross Valley's traffic corridor. I propose intense cooperative action with other Marin cities effected to promote a port Sonoma ferry service, as well as a future light rail from Sonoma County.
