Candidate for
Board Member; San Marcos Unified School District

Appointed to the San Marcos School Board in 2002, I currently serve as its Vice President. My wife, Heather, and I have been very active in the community since we moved here in 1994. Heather has served on Discovery Elementary School's Site Improvement Committee and as San Marcos Middle School's Band Booster President. She currently serves as the Band Booster President for San Elijo School.

We have three children who have been enrolled in San Marcos District schools since kindergarten. Our children have attended La Costa Meadows Elementary School, Discovery Elementary School, San Marcos Middle School and are currently enrolled at San Elijo School and San Marcos High School.

I graduated from Poway High School in 1977 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Urban Planning from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1983 and am currently employed as a Senior Planner by the City of Escondido. My involvement as a parent, a volunteer in the community, and at all school levels gives me the necessary perspective to lead this fast growing school district. This involvement includes:

• Elected as the organizing President of the Discovery Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization;
• Working with the San Marcos School District Budget Committee;
• Serving as a coach in San Marcos Youth Baseball;
• Participating in the committee to address San Marcos High School overcrowding;
• Serving on the Middle and High School Attendance Area Committees; and,
• Volunteering in the classroom and with the San Marcos and San Elijo Middle School Band Boosters.
