Create a District 6 "Community Gang Intervention Commission"

By Amos Jackson Young

Candidate for Councilmember; City of Pomona; District 6

This information is provided by the candidate
District 6 is "home-base" to four Pomona gangs. We need to speak directly to them to solve the problems. Solving the problem of gangs begins with the gangs.
Such a commission would be for those who want to learn how--and others of our community who know how--to reach the gang member. Its focus would be to research and potentially implement quality programs to assist in skill training, job placement and career planning for those on probation, parole or re-entering our community after incarceration.

We all should know that those on probation, parole or re-entering our community after incarceration face great challenges when it involves finding employment or appropriate job training. We must develop programs to meet the challenge + programs that provide a hand up, not a hand out. Together, we can develop programs that lead to gang members becoming great contributors to a healthy community. It can begin in District 6.

If we don't support them now, we will pay later. I have a plan, a program, a way to offer hope to gang members. Hope for skill training, long-term employment, and a better life. As your council representative, I will make every effort to find the human capital and financial resources to make this happen.
