Throughout her 20 years of public service, Millie's first priority has always been the preservation of our natural beauty and enhancement of our unique quality of life in Contra Costa County. She has earned a reputation as an effective leader, a consensus builder and a persuasive advocate for our best interests.

A transplant from Southern California, Millie saw first-hand what happened when growth was not properly managed. Awed by Contra Costa's natural beauty, she decided that she would do everything possible to prevent the mistakes of Southern California from being repeated here. She immediately became involved in her neighborhood in Danville and assisted with the Town's incorporation in 1982; she was subsequently appointed to Danville's first planning commission where she served for five years.

Millie was elected to the Danville Town Council in 1987 until her appointment to the Board of Supervisors last July. During her tenure on the Town Council, Millie helped guide Danville's growth while maintaining its unique charm and character.

Millie was the lead negotiator for Danville when the Town successfully challenged a proposal to develop the Dougherty Valley. She also worked tirelessly to tighten the County Urban Limit Line to prevent unplanned sprawl. As a member of the Town Council, Millie also ensured that residents' tax dollars were spent wisely and maintained a balanced budget while providing excellent community services.

Recognizing that growth and transportation are connected, she wisely worked on both local and regional solutions to Danville's and the County's growth, transportation and housing issues. In these efforts, Millie has been involved in virtually every collaborative planning effort affecting Contra Costa County as well as the larger Bay Area region. Her skilled leadership and unmatched experience have brought tangible results to her efforts for cooperative, multi-jurisdictional land use and transportation planning.

Millie served on and has chaired the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, the Tri-Valley Transportation Council, the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) to regulate growth, Tri-Valley Vision 2010 to study and make recommendations on a balance of open space, housing, transportation and jobs, and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) Regional Planning Committee.

Since becoming a member of the Board of Supervisors, Millie has been a tireless advocate for transportation improvements, increased enforcement of and stricter sanctions for DUI violations and for wine and olive oil processing in far East County.

In order to ease traffic congestion and make our roads safer, Millie sponsored legislation to improve safety along Vasco Road including physical improvements and increased police enforcement. She has formed a task force to propose strict sanctions on persons with multiple DUI convictions. Millie supports building the Caldecott Tunnel fourth bore, widening Highway 4, bringing eBART into East County and improving mass transit to lessen traffic congestion.

Millie, her husband Walter, and their son Brad live in Danville.
