MILLIE ON THE ISSUES

Transportation:

· Sponsored legislation to increase safety on Vasco Road, including physical improvement and increased enforcement of traffic violations.

· Established a task force to recommend stricter penalties against those with multiple DUI convictions.

· Supports building the Caldecott Tunnel fourth bore.

· Supports widening Highway 4.

· Supports bringing eBART into East County.

· Supports mass transit to lessen traffic congestion.

· Former chair of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority.

· Founding member and former chair of the Tri-Valley Transportation Council.

Protect Open Space:

· Worked to tighten the county urban limit line to prevent more suburban sprawl.

· Lead negotiator for Danville when the Town successfully challenged development of the Dougherty Valley.

· Worked on Shaping our Future to coordinate land use and transportation, provide adequate and affordable housing, improve mobility, develop employment opportunities, and protect open space.

· Former chair of the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) to regulate growth.

· Former chair of the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) Regional Planning Commission.

Housing:

· Supported the County Housing Trust Fund to help build affordable housing so that our communities are home to all the people who serve the community including teachers, police officers and firefighters.

· Supports affordable housing requirements and believes this housing should be tailored to the unique qualities of each community while providing a variety of housing options.

· Supports development that encourages housing to be located near employment, public transportation and basic neighborhood services.

· Supports linking the urban limit line with policies and incentives to ensure needed housing is accommodated within the boundaries.

Health:

· Expand access to health care and improve the quality of health services and fairly compensate health care workers for the life-saving work they perform.

· Protecting In-Home Supportive Services Program that provides in-home care to more than 5,000 seniors and disabled people in Contra Costa County. In-home care is far superior to facility care, is less expensive and has little administrative costs.

· Adhering to state law that allocates safe nursing staff ratios for patients in hospitals and nursing homes.

· Ensuring proper EMS staffing to maintain adequate ambulance response time.
