Affordable Housing in AtascaderoBy J. Mike ArrambideCandidate for Councilmember; City of Atascadero | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Affordable housing is a necessary part of a balanced community in order to assure economic viability.Every county in California has been required to include a balanced inventory of land available for affordable housing in the next seven years. San Luis Obispo County is one of the last to submit a plan that would address this goal. Without affordable housing in our community we will be unable to accommodate many in the service sector, as well as teachers, firemen and policemen. Our senior citizens deserve to remain in the community they know and love when they are no longer able to maintain a large lot. I have worked on our City Council over the past four years to assure housing for all levels of earning ability. I believe that our community has a moral, as well as economic, responsibility to assure balance in housing. Affordable housing can be included in our community, without diminishing our natural resources, by using creative and innovative solutions to the need. Our government agencies can be encouraged to participate in this goal. Development of an affordable housing inventory will follow, as our community builders respond to these incentives. |
