Code EnforcementBy Tony BarreraCandidate for Councilmember; City of Salinas; District 2; | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Code Enforcement is intended to protect city residents, their homes and their businesses. The City Council seeks direction and input from Salinas' residents in order to carry out their responsibilities as council members. In order to accomplish this, the City Council has formed several boards, commissions and committees who study the various issues and recommend appropriate direction to the City Council. There are also departments such as the Code Enforcement Division that controls structures throughout the city. The Zoning Code's objective is to protect residents, their homes and businesses. Zoning ordinances control what can be done throughout the city. For example, conducting a commercial business in a residential area. In District 2, there are some residents conducting auto mechanic businesses in their driveways and garages. This causes congestion of cars parked on the street for an unlimited amount of time, also limiting parking on the street for the residents. This becomes a safety issue. Inspectors enforce the codes, thus making residents feel safe and protected. |
