SafetyBy Tony BarreraCandidate for Councilmember; City of Salinas; District 2; | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Working with the community towards a safer environment and the enhancement of the quality of life is my goal.Progress towards peace in our city is something we are all concerned with. In our city there are many organizations coordinating movements towards attaining safe neighborhoods. Major components to be dealt with include alcohol and drug abuse prevention, after school education, mentoring, and gang-violence prevention to name a few. Although social service agencies, school districts, the Salinas Police Department and other key players are involved in cultivating peace, participation by more people is essential. Forming safety nets for families includes partnerships with numerous existing agencies in Salinas and educating the public on how to use these resources. As a community, we all share the responsibility of recognizing the elements of violence. As a City Council member, the responsibility is in supporting the organizations that are successfully attaining positive results that curtail violence. |
