Being A Judge

By Harris E. Kershnar

Candidate for Superior Court Judge; County of Orange; Office 21

Pursuing Justice Is The Goal
Being a judge is the highest form of public service an attorney can aspire to. During my 23 years as a practicing attorney, many people have told me that I would make an excellent judge.

A framed poster hangs in my office with the words "Justice, Justice Shalt Thou Pursue". The quote is from the Old Testament and I believe what it says.

When all is said and done, the courts and the impartial application of the rule of law are key elements of our society. I believe that I can make a contribution to our legal system.

When I ask people what they mean when they say I would make a good judge, they tell me things along the following lines: You are honest, you have integrity, you are really intelligent, you have the ability to be objective and analytical so that you consider all points of view before you reach a decision and you have become an expert in the field of employment law (a field that touches virtually everyone who works and everyone who owns or operates a business in our society).

Although I am not accustomed to bragging about myself, when I see people that I respect saying such nice things about me, I have come to the conclusion that there is truth to what they are saying. As one friend said to me, our legal system is only as good as the judges we select to preside over it. If elected, I will do my utmost to make the system work fairly and evenhandedly. After all, isn't that what a judge is supposed to do?
