Smart Voter Full Biography for Manuel Saucedo

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Pomona Unified School District

Manuel Saucedo graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering and is finishing the Master of Arts in Education this year. In his leadership role, he mentors students and parents wishing to to enter college. Several of his mentees are now working for educational agencies and the business world.

Mr. Saucedo began his career as an assistant director for the Early Academic Outreach Program at University of California, Riverside (UCR). He worked with Middle and High schools students to prepare them to enter the University of California. After UCR, he became an academic counselor for the University Advising Center at Cal Poly Pomona. In this position he worked with incoming undeclared students providing academic guidance and advising for students in declaring a major at Cal Poly Pomona. After the Advising Center, he became an Outreach/Admissions Counselor for the Office of Outreach and Recruitment recruiting both high school and transfer students to enter Cal Poly Pomona. In this position, Mr. Saucedo was responsible for programs, activities and parent workshops.

In 2000, Mr. Saucedo became the coordinator of external relations for the College of Education and Integrative Studies at Cal Poly Pomona. In this position, Mr. Saucedo works with the Collaborative Academic Preparation Initiative (CAPI)to prepare entering students in both English and Math to reduce the need of remediation, Building Bonds/TAPT in recruiting students who are interested in pursuing teaching as a career, and a liaison for the community in public relations and community relations. In this position, Mr. Saucedo works with different constituents (students, parents, community leaders, public officials and business leaders) to increase the quality of life of students and their parents.

Mr. Saucedo is involved in numerous organizations such as the advisor for the Mexican-American Student Association (MASA), Vice President of College of Education and Integrative Studies of the Alumni Association, Director of Development for the Hispanic Alumni Association, Board Member of the Statewide Youth Leadership Project in Sacramento, and Chairperosn of the Youth Education Motivation Program (YEMP) in Pomona.

Mr. Saucedo was involved in Society of Hispanic and Engineering (SHSE) and was the Advancing Careers in Engineering (ACE) chairperson, was involved in MASA and the Annual Parent Conference, RAZA Council and one of the founders of the Cesar E. Chavez Center for Higher Education, was the founder of the Cal Poly Pomona Scholarship Endowment, and participant of the Minority Engineering Program (MEP).

Mr. Saucedo is very passionate in working with youth in securing a future for them so that they can continue to give a hand to the next generation.
