I left Cuba in 1971 and entered the United States via Spain in 1973. I have been a Downey resident since 1980.

I established Lopez Insurance Agency in 1982. This is a multi-line insurance agency that employs 18 people, most of them local residents. I am married to Arlene, a Certified Public Accountant and partner in a CPA firm also located in Downey. I have five children, my youngest son is still attending Downey High School and two of my daughters are Downey Unified graduates.

I am active in many Downey organizations, among them: Gangs Out Of Downey, where I served as president in 99/00; the Downey High School Discipline Committee; the Downey YMCA, where I was the recipient of its 2001 Red Triangle Award and I'm currently serving on the Executive Board; ARC of Southeast L.A. County (formerly, the Association for Retarded Citizens); Rotary club of Downey, where I served as president in 94/95; and the Downey Chamber of Commerce, where I am a current board member.

I was selected by the Downey Chamber of Commerce as Small Business Man of the Year in 1999.

I have demonstrated to be a person of integrity, commitment and hard work, and everyone who knows me will agree.

I feel that my business experience and my extensive knowledge of the community provide me with the best possible qualifications to be a member of this board.
