Why I am running for office

The Constitution and Bill of Rights apply equally to everyone. All Americans are guaranteed their rights regardless of their race, religion, sexual preference or use of drugs. Every elected official, every law enforcement officer and every member of the military takes a sworn oath, not to the government or any of its officials, but to "uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic". Unlike our career politicians who raise lots of money from special interest groups to whom they become indebted, I will take the Constitution and Bill of Rights very seriously. I will refuse to endorse any law that violates it. To that end, I will advocate the repeal of bad laws that violate the Bill of Rights, such as helmet laws, gun control laws and other laws which make a crime out of something that should be an individual's choice. I shall repeatedly remind my opponents that the Constitution serves no useful purpose if it can be bent to whatever seems convenient at the moment. If there is no fixed charter that limits the government to specific functions, we will have only so much freedom as the government wishes to allow. It is time to stop paying lip service to the Constitution on national holidays, and instead start taking it seriously 365 days a year.
