The California State Legislature and State Attorney General Bill Lockyer have been ignoring the will of the majority of California's voters for almost 4 years now. Sick, disabled and dying medical marijuana patients are still being arrested, harassed and prosecuted by law enforcement because our elected officials are not obeying the law. Proposition 215 is now The Compassionate Use Act (H&S 11362.5) and took effect in November of 1996. It's time to end this failed zero-tolerance War on Drugs in the name of COMPASSION. I will vehemently defend the right of the people of California to legally use medical marijuana (MMJ) just as they voted for it. Seven states have voted similarly and a 1999 Gallup poll shows a national vote of 73% in favor of medical marijuana (MMJ). The Hawaii state legislature recently voted for it. My opponent, incumbent Democrat Howard Wayne, opposes medical marijuana. Isn't it interesting how our governor and state legislature know more about health care than our licensed physicians do? It's time for the government to stop interfering into our private lives and our health, before they start regulating vitamins and herbs too. |
