A strong educational system, with inspiring teachers, who impart basic analytical skills to cope with the challenges of the future should be our goal.A strong educational system is the cornerstone of an advanced society. I feel that the teaching profession should be an honored and revered calling, and paid accordingly. Teachers should not only teach, they should inspire. If we are going to have a public education system then let's have the best. I do not support the voucher system. If a school is to be private, then keep it private. I support not only a school lunch program but a school breakfast program as well. If children are hungry they don't learn as effectively. I support emphasis on mastering basic cirriculum and avoiding fads. The ultimate goal should be to give kids the competency to identify, research and analyze the challenges of life on their own. We do live in the information age and only the people and communities that have the skills to deal with the coming challenges will prosper. The basic cognitive and analytical skills refined over the last twenty centuries and overlooked the last twenty years are more important than ever. Children must understand the difference between data and knowledge. Power comes not from the data but the knowledge of how to use it. |
