Hercules Is Where Education Is Number One. High Standard of Education

By Ed Balico

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Hercules

This information is provided by the candidate
Our community must have local control over our schools. Help our educators (i.e. principal, teachers and our admin)by giving them the right tools to help educate our children.
Our community expectations from West Contra Costa School District are high and they should be. I beleived that in order to achieve the highest educational standards for our community is to have local control over our local schools. The West Contra Costa School District is too big, too many challenges in their plate, centralized control not local control, never ending leadership(school board supervisors)changes.

The following are some of the advantages of having local control over our schools:
1. Local decision making by the entire community.
2. Easier local implementation of our eductional goals.
3. Parents, teachers, the entire community has a say in our
curriculums, adminitration and programs including special
categorical aid programs.
4. Increased community identity.
5. Local accountability.

There are three options of making it happen. 1. Form our school district. 2. Join existing John Swett School District. 3. Charter school.
