A need we can no longer neglect.
A city, like Walnut, is a living community. So, to remain a living community, Walnut not only needs to replenish itself with new energy, it needs to retain the wisdom and influence of it's older generation.

Right now, there are two segments of population who find it difficult to live in Walnut. One is our young families, just starting out. I have three children, all of whom have good jobs and two of which are married. None of them can afford to live in Walnut. That's why I'm so supportive moving ahead with our First Time Home Buyers Program.

The other end of the spectrum is our Senior Citizens. Over the past years, we all probably knew someone who moved out of Walnut because their children have grown and left and the parents remain with more house then they needed. They want to downsize to something less demanding. But there was nothing for them in our city, so they moved somewhere else. Many of these individuals were an integral part in making Walnut what it is today.

I've talked to many who are in the same situation right now. Also, there are those who now live in Walnut who would like to have their own parents live closer to them. That's why I believe it's important that our City move in the direction of providing affordable Senior housing.
