Lafayette's Limited Services Government

Lafayette was founded on the principles of a limited services government. Unfortunately, Lafayette's City Council has moved away from those basic principles. I believe it is time to restore that perspective.

As many of you know, our sidewalks, crosswalks and roads need upgrading. We need to fund the basic needs of our citizens before we fund discretionary projects. The City council, on the other hand, is stockpiling nearly 2 million dollars for a future City Hall. It is doing so at the same time it claims that there are insufficient funds for road improvements, traffic enforcement and other basic needs.

I believe that we should fund badly needed sidewalk and crosswalk improvements before a City Hall. We should fund additional traffic enforcement measures, at the gateways to our City, before a City Hall. Once Lafayette secures funding for the necessary improvements to our infrastructure and for additional traffic enforcement, without the need for additional parcel taxes or sales taxes, then and only then, should we focus on discretionary spending.

During this era of prosperity, it is unfortunate that we have not made better use of our City's resources. I am committed to improving Lafayette's fiscal management and addressing the basic needs of all of our citizens.
