Political Philosophy for Debra Gravert

Candidate for
Member of the State Assembly; District 10

"I want people to have the freedom to achieve their greatest potential. I want people to retain throughout their lives the excitement and enthusiasm we see in little children. I do not believe there should be a place for cynicism and pessimism. When we look at each other, we should see what is positive and not what is negative.

"The means to achieving these goals is self reliance and hard work. To the degree government is needed to assit, economy and efficiency should be its means of implementation. Duplicative government effort should be eliminated. New laws, regulations, and intiatives should only be a last resort to resolving a problem.

"I beleive I can make a difference in helping to make the above goals a reality. I believe my Legislative epxerience can get the things done that need to be done in the most expeditious mannner. My constituents should not have to feel the frustrations of seemingly endless bureaucracy. I propose representation the way it ought to be.

"Norman Mailer wrote a book several years ago about politics and politicians entiled 'Some Honorable Men'. Politics was once seen in an honorable light. I would like to bring back that positive feeling. I would like those living in East Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, Galt, Lodi, and throughout California's 10th Assembly District to see me as the best representative they could every think of having.

"My highest priority is education: Reducing class sizes for all grades; providing a quality education of which we can be proud; fast track for school construction and improvements; zero tolerance policies to keep our children save: no weapons, drugs, violent behavior and gang activity in our schools.

"Public safety, tax relief, and focus on our seniors are additional high priorities that reflect my political philosophy. We need more police and sheriffs on our streets, before- and after-school programs that reduce juvenile crime, a fully enforced death penalty, and elimination of the legalese-type technicalities that permit criminals to stay out of jail.

"Tax codes and government regulations must be simplified, the sales tax reduced, renters' tax credit restored, daycare tax breaks expanded, and small and developing business tax assistance provided. Older workers must be protected from job discrimination, penalties increased for those who mentally or physically abuse seniours, as well as for those who use telephone marketing scams to prey on our seniors.

"I have the experience that will make the difference. I look to those living in East Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, Galt, Lodi, and throughout California's 10th Assembly District to support my efforts to work for them."
