Traffic

By Cynthia Murray

Candidate for Supervisor; Marin County; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate
We must solve our traffic nightmare. I am demanding a return of HOV carpool lane to regular hours; widening of Highway 101 and connection of all HOV lanes from Novato to Mill Valley
FOR TRAFFIC

I have proposed and implemented real solutions to our traffic problems throughout my years of public service. My record is solid.

As a Novato City Councilmember, I eliminated
over 8000 projected car trips per day on Highway 101 by dramatically reducing the size of development, by creating local high-paying jobs that moved commuters off the road, and by bringing Marin Airporter to Novato.

But the problem is larger than City Council solutions. We must break the gridlock on Highway 101, and it is up to the Marin County Board of Supervisors to take the lead.

As your Supervisor, I will:
¨ Secure the funds needed to implement critical improvements. Pointing fingers at others is no way to solve our transportation problems. Widening Highway 101 and connecting all HOV lanes in both directions from Novato to Mill Valley is!

¨ Only support a greatly reduced St.Vincent's/Silviera project, with number of units slashed and building limited to less than 10% of the property;

¨ Add Bel Marin Key Unit 5 property to the wetlands restoration at Hamilton;

¨ Secure state and federal funding for other traffic improvements: correcting of the treacherous intersection at Redwood Landfill and Highway 101; solving Novato Narrows, and others. As a Councilmember I have been working on these problems already. I have met with Assemblywoman Mazzoni, and Senator Burton's office to locate the balance of funds needed. Local tax money should not be used to solve a regional problem, which can be better funded by state and federal agencies;

¨ Support the intra-city jitney project for local shuttle service;

¨ Insure that our tax dollars are spent the way voters designate, and not for special interest projects that voters haven't approved;

¨ Fight to keep our tax dollars home, solving our local problems. Too much of our hard earned tax money is not returned to the local jurisdiction.
