Gina Roberts Candidate StatementBy R. W. "Gina" RobertsCandidate for Board Member; Valley Center Pauma Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Gina Roberts is prepared and ready to work diligently to continue the excellent learning experience and environment for VCPUSD StudentsMy name is Gina Roberts, I'm a consulting engineer in multiple fields and I've lived in Valley Center for 27 years. My family raised three children here, two of which attended Valley Center Schools, and one went through all grades here. I've been involved in the Schools as a parent, a fundraiser, a supporter and a community member of various boards for about 20 of those years. I've raised money to support scholarships, the Maxine Theater, and the high school; all in all, recently, I've mostly supported the school district with a little time and lots of money. In the past, when I was able to commit the time, I was on the School Site Council for two schools, The Community Group overseeing the Unification of the district and I assisted in the early establishment of the ROP and Adult education programs as an adviser. I am totally involved in the implementation of new computer technology in my career and have been for many years, so I consider myself up to speed on technical issues of the use of technology and its application. I have followed the school district, its board and its meetings for many years, as I've been friends with many current and former board members through our participation service clubs and I understand most of the issues they have faced. It's time to change my current focus and put my time and expertise to a different use, those who know me, know I've made some pretty significant changes in my life recently. Those changes have brought many things into better focus. Reinforcing the concept that a little change can really make things better. I believe that the School Board should be staffed with a broad cross section of the community; and that an outsider's view is required to achieve the balance that will best serve our school district. It is important that a combination of educators and non-educators provide that required balance to the board that will result in the most effective local control. I think it is important to provide a positive educational experience for both students that are college bound and not-college bound. The focus of the district should always be what is best for the students, but also, what is best for society and that we need to prepare our students to be smart, motivated and on-time citizens that can work together and can solve problems not only at school but in the work place. While VCPUSD is possibly the best financially managed school district, it still faces some interesting non-financial challenges, such as; the conflict over Common Core implementation, issues with curriculum content, the implementation and accessibility of technology, school security, the building of new sports fields, and accommodation with some vocal community factions. My success in life has been the fact that I am a tremendous listener that can hear multiple sides of an issue and create consensus without allowing my ego or my needs to intrude on the process. I'm bright enough to realize that I don't have all of the answers, but my problem solving, analytical abilities, and integrity allow me to work with many people and get them all going the same direction to fix a problem. I approach this new opportunity without an agenda of my own. I want to hear from the community and represent their views on the school board. I will provide an objective and informed opinion on all matters that are considered in the school district. VCPUSD is a well-run district, but even in the most efficient machines and systems there are opportunities for improvement. I'd like to be part of that process and as a person of my word I will do everything I can to provide the best for our students in Valley Center, without allowing my ego or personal agenda from interfering. Please vote for me on November 4th and I will serve faithfully and be honored by your trust.
