My blog is up to about 500,000 words now, Plastic Alto, so if you read all that surely you will have a great map of my brain. More than any other candidate of the 12 in this race, Palo Alto has made me what I am. if I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when? In fall, 1977 Cheryl "Putt" Preising tapped me on the shoulder and said You should run for Student Body President. I would say my 2014 candidacy for Palo Alto City Council continues an ongoing sense of obligation to my peers, my elders and the next generation. Also, when I started Earthwise Productions in 1994, in some ways a spin-off of Bay Area Action Earth Day at Stanford, it was as a community development project. I believe my campaign is a natural extension of my day job in a way no other candidate here can match. Palo Alto is in a strange moment when The Establishment is pushing for continued recent rapid change and people like me who argue for continuity with the 120 year past and a nod seven generations into the future are called "insurgents" "agitators" and worse. My aim is true. |
