Ballot StatementBy Karen HolmanCandidate for Council Member; City of Palo Alto | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Since 1975, I have seen Palo Alto become richer in innovation and acclaim, but harmed by overdevelopment and a growing disconnect between City decisions and public values. On Council and for 8 years on the Planning & Transportation Commission, I have been a staunch advocate that projects that meet design standards befitting our world-class city and that do not impair our ability to enjoy the pleasures of Palo Alto.
I have consistently fought for values-driven planning that includesthe public and reduces impacts on our neighborhoods, natural resources, retail and public services. On Finance Committee, I reduced proposed staffing increases. I also pushed for an audit of parking fees and for impact fees that don't unfairly shift costs to residents. As your voice, I created Council policies restricting private Councilmember meetings with interested parties and argued against the 27 University process.
Our next Council will approve a Comprehensive Plan shaping ourcommunity for years to come. My many years of service to Palo Alto, and my attention to your interests, give me the experience and perspective vital to that task. This election is about the future of our Palo Alto. I would be honored to continue to serve you. KarenHolman.org |
