My Passion for Richmond's PlightMy name is Henry Washington a lifetime resident of Richmond. My grandfather came to the city over seventy years ago and became Richmond's first African American police officer. During the decades of the 70's, 80's and 90's my uncle served four terms on the city council. After I moved my church to Richmond from Vallejo in 2008, I began to work in the city around the areas of anti-gun violence, education reform, community engagement and beautification efforts as well as being instrumental in the adoption of the Cease-Fire model in Richmond resulting in continued drops in homicides and violent crimes since 2010. I have collaborated with local, state and national governmental representatives to create policy to advance the quality of life for Richmond residents. I have tried to serve as a bridge between the troubled relations including Law Enforcement & community, community & local government and community & social services. My campaign for City Council includes an agenda that addresses four key areas: 1) That a higher level of decorum and professionalism be upheld by council members and city officials to ensure cohesive relationships between the city of Richmond's citizens and its elected officials. |
