Provisions for Charter Schools is the law. I have first hand experience with all types of learning environments. I do not fear Charter Schools but will make traditional schools my focus.
My two children have been in PRIVATE SCHOOL, HOME SCHOOL and PUBLIC SCHOOL. Currently one is in WCCUSD public and the other in Oakland School for the Arts, a charter school. The flexibility addressed specific needs that traditional school could not or would not meet. I do not fear charter schools. Charter Schools are public. If a parent received a notice in the mail congratulating him/her on his child being selected to attend an existing charter school, I believe that parent would be delighted. Now, WHY? Because they believe charter schools to be the answer to over-crowded classrooms, unsafe classrooms, disruptive students, and inadequate teachers. They are not always the answer to greater student achievement. However, the ideals expressed by charter schools are commendable. Those are the same ideals for traditional schools. Charter Schools will not flourish on my watch. Why? Because I am committed to addressing the needs of every student, not just those with the advantages of good grades and successful families. Together we can build A WORLD CLASS PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM WHERE EVERY SCHOOL AND EVERY CLASSROOM YIELDS SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS AND PROUD PARENTS. So, I avoid the distraction of politically motivated stances "for" and "against" charter schools. I choose "continuous improvement". P L E A S E J O I N M E IN M Y S T A N C E. GIVE ME YOUR SUPPORT!
