Political Philosophy for Nancy Kendzierski

- Support the District's strong academic focus and performance The move to Common Core and new assessments is an exciting challenge for the coming years. We have made a good start this first year, but to truly transform teaching approaches and deepen curriculum is a multi-year project that will call upon the best efforts of teachers, staff, administration, board, and the community. I hope to help foster that collaboration through my many contacts throughout the community and my knowledge of our local implementation priorities for the standards through the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). - Maintain fiscal stability This is a significant challenge, given the state's current level of funding for education, the many changes with the move to the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), and the significant pension cost increases to school districts recently passed by the legislature. In addition to state funding, we must explore and be open to identifying additional funding opportunities and especially cost improvements. My knowledge of education funding and finances will help inform our consideration of possible approaches and proposals. - Work closely with parents and the community to continue and enhance their invaluable support Our district has an incredibly supportive community: financial support, countless volunteer hours, and a deep appreciation of the value of public education. With the number of changes in the next few years, it is essential that the community remains an informed and engaged participant. I have collaborated with the school boards and parent groups at most of the schools in the high school and partner elementary districts for many years and I will work to ensure their continued involvement. |
