Denise's PhilosophyBy Denise JennisonCandidate for Board Member; San Ramon Valley Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Denise Jennison believes that strong public schools make a strong community.A quality public education is the cornerstone of our society; every child deserves nothing less. The schools of the San Ramon Valley are excellent. We have outstanding teachers, administrators, and employees who are committed to providing the best possible education to the children and families that they serve. It is the responsibility of the school board to make sure that we maintain the excellence that we have already established while embracing the future of education so that our students are prepared to compete in a global economy. The SRVUSD is a great school district. In fact, it is the highest performing large school district in Northern California. That level of accomplishment does not come without hard work. Denise has been part of the work that has brought us where we are + first as a parent of students in our schools (since 1994) and most recently as a school board member. Denise knows that in order to make a great school district even better, all stakeholders must work together. The 21st century has brought new challenges to education. Our leaders must embrace the changing face of education while never losing sight of what is important. This is a time of great change in public education. Local control is being emphasized. The implementation of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) change the way that the State funds our schools and consequently the way that we build our budgets locally. New standards are in place as are new assessments to evaluate student progress. During these challenging times, Denise believes that experienced leadership is crucial. Strong, proven leaders must work collaboratively with the community to support our schools locally, while continuing to focus on the bigger picture. Denise has spent many years and much time advocating at the state level for our public schools. She plans to continue this advocacy and use her extensive knowledge of school finance in California to maintain the fiscal integrity of the district. |
