The way we manage water in California is changing rapidly. In the midst of a severe drought and a growing population, we have to evolve to meet the needs of our community while also preserving the environment. As a Director of the Stege Sanitary District, I will use my unique expertise gained during my 15-year water career to better the water future of El Cerrito, Kensington and Richmond Annex. I served as a Board Member of the Alexandria Sanitation Authority, an innovative and award-winning wastewater district in Virginia. I worked as the Director of Research for the WateReuse Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to advancing the science of water recycling. Most recently, I served as the Director of Collaboration and Innovation for Re-inventing the Nation's Urban Water Infrastructure where I brought agencies, cities, environmentalists and entrepreneurs together to solve the most pressing issues facing the nation's water management. Even now, as a Realtor serving the East Bay, my job includes educating my clients on issues facing all of us as homeowners and renters: water conservation, sewer lateral compliance and low-impact landscaping. The average age of our wastewater pipelines in the District is 57 years old, and in some cases date back to the 1920s! We need innovative solutions to proactively upgrade our systems, rather than spending on costly repairs that occur after a problem arises. I promise to bring novel ideas to the Stege Sanitary District, with an eye toward cost-efficiency for the rate payers and environmental protection. Please vote for me, Joshua M. Dickinson, for the Stege Sanitary District Board on November 4! |
