Health Care

By Wayne S. True

Candidate for United States Representative; District 53

This information is provided by the candidate
This country needs healthcare, but the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) isn't it. With 30 years of medical practice, Dr. True has a background ready to tackle the task of correcting this issue.
The implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA, Obamacare) has not improved health care access for all American citizens. It appears instead to be designed to fail, ushering in "single payer." Having the government control all of health care will not improve the quality of care or access to care. Dr. True does not support single payer. He will work to provide improvements in the ACA, or viable alternatives to achieve high quality health care. He will maintain patient choice of plan, health care system, and physician. One of the drivers of cost has been the cost of pharmaceuticals. Through his travels Dr. True has priced many common prescription items in Europe, Latin America, and Australia. The costs are a fraction of the price in the United States. Most countries bargain for the best prices for their citizens. Current US law forbids Medicare and ACA administrators from bargaining with pharmaceutical companies to achieve better pricing. This can be changed. Dr. True would favor tort reform to reign in malpractice costs, similar to what has been done in California.

Here are some examples of what Obama care has done:

Are you a male patient between the ages of 45 and 70? You are at risk of developing prostate cancer. Government guidelines say we should not screen for prostate cancer, as only 2-3% of men die from prostate cancer. However, 1/3 of men will have prostate cancer cells in their body by age 65. Our government says not to screen as we might treat some men who would not have known they had prostate cancer. I disagree, evidence shows early screening and treatment cuts deaths from prostate cancer by 50%. We need to repeal Obamacare now! Help me get to Congress and I will work to do just that!

Are you a woman in your reproductive years? The latest guidelines are to screen every 3 + 5 years for cervical cancer. Prior to the current administration the guidelines were for annual exams. Again, there is concern from the government that we may be over-treating women for cervical cancer. As a physician I am penalized for screening women more frequently than the guideline dictates. Guidelines today appear to be made to achieve an economic and political goal, not necessarily to protect the patient. We need to repeal Obamacare now! Help me get to Congress and I will work to do just that!

Are you a senior citizen? Sarah Palin was criticized by the media for referring to Obamacare's "death panels." The bill puts in place the IPAB's, advisory boards tasked with keeping costs down to a fixed number regardless of the increasing number of enrollees. Rationing of care is inevitable. Most European countries with socialized medicine stop cancer care, joint replacements, pacemakers at age 75 as you have served your usefulness to society by that age. Physicians are excluded from participating in this process, only political appointees may be on the panels. We need to repeal Obamacare now! Help me get to Congress and I will work to do just that!
