Questions & Answers

1. In this time of high unemployment and budget deficits, what are the most important steps that should be taken to improve our nation’s economy and sustain job creation?

Limit the barriers to small business by reducing Federal regulations on Intrastate businesses. Federal standards to regulate interstate trade are required, but when the Federal government, overrides the State regulations, they hinder small business, and establish opportunities for "too big to fail" entities. Federal regulations can put family business out of business. Local and State governments are better able to establish and support small business, unless product will leave the state in which it is created, there should generally be no Federal standards required of the family business.

2. What, if any, changes should be made to federal health care policies or programs?

Refine the policy options to increase the opportunities for free citizens to make informed choices. Set a maximum amount of compensation that can be given tax free in the form of health insurance, and report the excess as income subject to tax. Allow employers to not offer coverage to staff, to eliminate motivation to cut hours or stay small, but allow an individual tax deduction for the difference between what is paid by the employer, and the maximum allowed. Thus treating all workers to the same amount of tax free income in the form of health insurance. Allow citizens to buy, and insurance companies to sell, primary care coverage, similar in nature to dental plans, that would encourage preventative care, but not experimental care. Allow health plans to create "lifestyle choice" risk pools and charge a premium adder, associated with health choices, that shares the cost of the health complications among those who made choices that lead to health complications. Do not require responsible citizens to subsidize the irresponsible behavior and choices of others. The key word here is CHOICE. The general risk pool should include all biologically "normal" complications. Allow adult children tax deductions of the expenses they make for their non dependent parents: premiums or out of pocket expense. Require hospitals to offer emergency first aid and comfort, but not require heroic emergency treatments. Recreate motives for Charities to provide care, and tax payers to contribute to charitable care providers.

3. What are your priorities with respect to our nation’s energy policy?

We need to look at viable ways to reduce our energy dependency on other countries.

4. What, if any, changes should be made with respect to our nation’s security, including our national defense or anti-terrorism measures?

I need to understand more why President Obama followed a path of greater engagement, while candidate Obama was clear he would end the engagement in foreign wars and spying on American citizens. There is more here than I understand, and therefore I can not say what should be done differently before receiving a security briefing that provides what is not reported in the press.

5. What is your position on the issue of immigration reform? What, if any, changes to legislation or policy would you support?

I think we need to understand that we are still THE nation that offers hope to the world. The American Dream is still of interest to those outside of America. We have much to offer. We need to both find, and stand behind, a policy that allows for the world to have hope of coming to America legally. We need to identify the consequences that should be applied to those who demonstrate their willingness to break American laws, and not wait for legal admission. There should be a clear path for those who are willing to live and work under the law, to be able to experience the American Dream. Reuniting foreign born families on American soil should not be a priority is allowing immigration. Sponsors, including employers, should be required to provide 100% of the social infrastructure for life for any individual they sponsor for entry. Payments for social services and government aid should be obligations of sponsors. Evaluation of sponsors offer to sponsor, should include an evaluation of their ability to meet the financial obligations that might arise from sponsorship. Sponsors, not tax payers, should carry the burden of sponsorship.
