Political Philosophy for John R. Edwards

KISS, keep it simple Remember the warning about enemies, both domestic and foreign. We tend to forget about the domestic ones. Congress has the power to tax and spend; to regulate commerce; to provide for the national defense and to lavish money on friends and special interests. We don't hear about that last power so very much. But, we should hear about it a lot because it happens and the public should know. If the leadership puts a bill on the floor, to be voted on, and does not allow time to read the bill, I will vote no! I expect to make small rational changes to laws. I do not trust the big patchwork of special interest bills such as Obamacare. I know that exceptions and loopholes are the special interest influence, but the cost must be known and considered. I think sewage output into a river needs more care than similar output into an ocean. San Diego asking for an exception for what is dumped into the Pacific makes sense. Congress has created agencies and departments that have the power to make regulations. Such practice is bad law. The people have not voted for or against the staff making regulations. I was educated before the department of education was established. It serves to force a Federal vision of educational programs on the students and schools of America. There is no child left behind and common core and very little education for children. At normal school, we talked about local control of the schools. That is not state control like we have in California. It is San Diego schools; El Cajon schools doing books, subjects, classes their way. There would be great variety. Some would be good. Some would be bad, but I trust that kids and parents would muddle through. I doubt the single mindedness of the Federal way. One size does not fit all, in shoes or students. The Federal department of energy was created to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil. This has not happened. They stopped the pumping of oil in the Gulf of Mexico on the pretext that it was too dangerous. To continue pumping oil would pollute the Gulf. They have fought the development of domestic oil fields. Fracking has been developed on private land. This department has failed its mission; it should be departed! |
